Vital Funding for Local Sports Groups

A host of local sports clubs were successful in their application for funding under the latest round of the Sports Capital programme, including the following:

Charleville Lawn Tennis Club                         €3,629
Clonliffe Harriers Athletic Club                     €10,500
Erin’s Isle GAA Club                                       €147,565
Finglas Kempo Karate Club                                 €697
Glasnevin Lawn Tennis Club                         €40,000
Home Farm FC                                                 €60,779
McKelvey Celtic FC                                          €27,141
Sports Across Ireland                                        €1,846
St. Kevin’s Boys FC                                       €200,000

Stella Maris FC                                              €144,272
Whitehall Colmcille GAA Club                      €9,785
Woodlawn Sportslink F.C.                              €2,125

These allocations are very welcome.  Despite many worthwhile initiatives, local clubs have struggled with fund-raising over recent years because of the economic downturn. On top of this, the range of Government funding for sports has been cut back and back so clubs have found it very hard to develop new facilities.

These allocations will go some way to improving local facilities and making sport available to a wider number of local children and adults. The more children we can attract to and keep involved in sport the better for everyone.
